Take a very sharp knife (ex: exacto blade) and make a slit down the length of each bean. Stick in the vodka and leave it for about 6 weeks. Shake about once a week.

The color is a very light amber, so you might not think it is ready, to check just take off the lid & smell. When the delicious aroma wafts out, it is ready.

To make your own vanilla extract, rub two vanilla beans with the dull edge of a knife to evenly distribute the beans, then cut the beans in half lengthwise, and place in a bottle of vodka or some other kind of liquor.
