Cookies - Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. hot water
12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups old-fashioned oats


Put all ingredients in large bowl. Mix well with hands. Drop by spoonsfuls on greased cookie sheet; bake 6-8 minutes. Do not allow to brown hardly at all.

Note: May substitute 1 cup raisins for chocolate chips.
