Pies - Apple - Apple Betty

4 cups thinly sliced apples
1/4 cup orange juice
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup butter


Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease 9" pie plate. Mound sliced apples in pie plate. Sprinkle with orange juice.

In a medium mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well, then cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Scatter over apples. Place pie in preheated oven and bake 45 minutes. Serve warm.

Almonds, toasted and sliced Prepare pie crust for filled one-crust pie using 9-inch pan. Flute edge. Heat oven to 375F. Reserve 2 Tbl. sugar. In medium bowl, combine remaining sugar and corn starch. Add eggs, beating well to combine. Stir in butter, corn syrup and almond extract.
