Italian - Taralli

3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
5 large eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup lard or shortening

Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Add lard and mix till crumbly. Make a well. Put in eggs and mix into a ball. Knead till smooth and elastic.

Make into rings.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Flour two cookie sheets.

Drop a few into boiling water till they come to top. Put on cookie sheet and slit sides. Bake 15 to 20 min till light brown.
