Drinks - Cuban Marlen's Creme De Vie

1 cup water
2 cups sugar
1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
1 (14 oz.) can condensed milk
8 egg yolks, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup rum (or to taste) (Can also use brandy or whiskey-rum is the Cuban tradition)


Combine water and sugar and boil until it becomes syrupy. Let cool. Add both milks and vanilla to yolks. Mix well. Add syrup and rum. Mix well again. Strain all through a fine mesh strainer. Pour into sterilized decorative bottle with tight seal. Refrigerate. Better if left in the refrigerator for a couple of days. Shake a bit before drinking.

1 (3 3/4 oz) pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix 2 eggs, beaten 1/3 c. sugar 1 t. vanilla flavoring 6 c. milk dash of nutmeg Using mixer on medium speed, combine pudding mix, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Cooked Eggnog 1 quart milk 4 Eggs - lightly beaten 1/4 cup Powdered sugar 1 tsp Vanilla extract Ground nutmeg for garnish In a heavy saucepan, combine milk, eggs and powdered sugar. Mix well using a wire whisk. Slowly bring to a simmer, over low and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently with the whisk. Remove from heat. Add vanilla extract and mix well. Refrigerate until cold. To serve warm, heat eggnog in the microwave, garnish with nutmeg, and serve.
