use fresh cherries, when available otherwise use

2 (16 oz) cans drained, pitted cherries and only 1/2 cup sugar
4 cups fresh, ripe sweet dark cherries, pitted
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
2 cups cranberry juice

1 (16 oz.) can whole cranberry sauce 1 teaspoon gelatin 2 Tablespoons cold water 1/2 cup light corn syrup grated rind and juice of two oranges 1 1/3 cups buttermilk 2 egg whites -- stiffly beaten Heat and stir cranberry sauce until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in gelatin which has been softened in cold water 3 minutes. Add corn syrup and let cool. Stir in juice and buttermilk. Mix thoroughly and pour in shallow pan.
