Cookies - Rolled Cookies Brer Rabbit Sugar Molasses
3/4 cup shortening1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 teaspoons Baking soda
2 cups sifted flour (this is an old recipe so I guess you really don't have to sift withe modern flours)
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
Melt shortening in a sauce pan over low heat (now days you can microwave it)--cool--Add sugar, molasses, and egg.
Beat well. Sift together the flour and spices. Add to first mixture. Chill.
Form in 1" balls, roll in granulated sugar.
Put balls on greased cookie sheet 2" apart and flatten with bottom of a glass. Bake 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes
