Cookies - Formed Cookies Cherry Winks

2 1/4 Cup sifted flour
1 tsp double acting baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup shortning
3/4 Cup cornflakes crushed (now you can buy them in a box)
1 Cup sugar
2 eggs
2 TBS milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped dates or raisins(not chopped)
1/3 cup maraschino cherries (chopped)
extra cherries for decorating

Combine shortening and sugar (I think I used crisco but I'm sure margerine would do) Cream. Add eggs, milk and vanilla.

Sift together dry ingredients, and slowly blend in.
Mix well. Add nuts, cherries, and raisins and mix well. shape into balls using a level teaspoon of dough for each
cookie. Roll ball in crushed cornflakes.

Place on greased cookie sheet. Top with 1/4 cherry and press the cherry down a bit. Bake 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

On the latest box of Kellogs corn flakes I have the have the same recipe (minus the soda and they do use margarine)

40 maraschino cherries, well drained 1/4 cup rum or brandy if desired** 1/2 cup butter 1/4 cup powdered sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 cup All-Purpose flour **If desired, in small bowl, soak cherries in rum for 30 minutes, drain well. Heat over to 350º. In a small bowl, cream butter, powdered sugar and vanilla. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour; mix at low speed until combined. Wrap 1 teaspoon of dough around each cherry to completely cover. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes in a 350º oven. Cool on wire racks while you prepare
