Candy - Cherry Mash

2 cups sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk
Dash of salt
12 large marshmallows
1/2 cup margarine
6 oz. pkg. cherry chips
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Combine sugar, milk, salt, marshmallows and margarine in saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add cherry chips and vanilla. Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan that has been buttered or sprayed with Pam. Refrigerate.
Topping:
2 tablespoons margarine
12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup crushed salted peanuts
Melt chocolate chips and margarine in double boiler. Simmer until melted. Remove from heat and add peanut butter and peanuts. Spread over cherry layer.
Keep refrigerated and cut into squares.

NOTES : These taste exactly like the popular Cherry Mash candy.

Cook to 244 degrees (use a candy thermometer)- stirring constantly. Pour into buttered jelly roll pan. Refrigerate. Once set, cut and wrap individual pieces in plastic wrap. For best results, keep refrigerated.
