Beansandgrains - Pinto - Meaty Pinto Beans

1 lb. dry pinto beans
1 can tomatoes with green chilies
1 lb. fried hamburger meat
1 large onion
1 lb. sliced link sausage
1 Tbsp. salt
1 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. pepper


Combine all ingredients and enough water to keep burning. Cook on top of stove for about 3 hours or in crock-pot about 6 hours.

Good served over rice.

Drain, wash and cover with about 2 inches water and boil over moderate heat for about an hour. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 11/2 or 2 hours until tender. (Add, if you wish, 2 or 3 bell peppers, 4 carrots and 4 stalks celery.)

2 pounds pinto beans 2 pounds ham hocks or salt pork 2 onions -- chopped 4 tablespoons sugar 2 green chiles -- or to taste 1 can tomato paste salt Wash beans and soak overnight. Cover beans with water and cook with above ingredients over low heat (simmer) until done. Sample the beans while cooking so you can add salt to taste. Add water as needed.
