Appetizers - Crackers - Cheese Straws By Becky

1 lb. Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup butter (1 stick)*
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

Grate cheese. Cream together butter and cheese. Sift flour, salt and pepper. Gradually add into cheese and butter mixture. Roll out on floured board. Cut in strips and put on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Pecans or olives can be put on top of strips before baking.

*One stick of butter is 1/2 c but this is the recipe as I found it.

1 (5-ounce) jar Kraft Olde English Cheese 2 sticks butter, no substitutes, softened 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour red pepper to taste Preheat oven to 350. Line cookie sheets with foil and do not grease them for these cookies. Cream butter and cheese until light, add desired amount of red pepper. Add flour blending well. These can be dropped by teaspoonful onto cookie sheet or as we do we pipe them from a pastry bag fitted with a large star or flower tip. Bake 350 8-10 minutes or until light brown on bottoms or edges. They freeze well. Yield: 6

2 c. brown sugar 1 c. plain flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1 egg, beaten 1 stick butter OR 3/4 c. cooking oil OR 1 stick oleo 1 tsp. vanilla 3/4 c. benne seed, toasted Cream the butter and sugar. Add egg, then flour sifted with salt and baking powder. Add vanilla and benne seed; drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet.Bake in moderate 325 degrees F. oven for about 5-7 minutes. (Watch them carefully as they cook very quickly!). Allow to cool 1 minute before removing from pan. This makes a transparent wafer.Yield: 70 very thin wafers.
